I recognize that the responsibility for the well-crafted farm and food policy in advance of the reauthorization of the Farm Bill is more important now than ever. My top priorities going into the 118th Congress remain strong: we need to protect and strengthen crop insurance, promote trade, and stop regulatory overreach. I am committed to rolling up my sleeves and getting to work on behalf of those who feed, fuel, and clothe the world. I am honored to serve on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee in the 118th Congress. It is vitally important that the Big First has representation on the House Agriculture and House Transportation and Infrastructure committees. The Big First has 83,000 miles of road, seven commercial airports, and more than 4,000 miles of railroad track. We rely on this system to get to work, take our kids to school, and deliver food, fuel, and fiber to the rest of the world. America needs a tailored, well-maintained, fiscally responsible infrastructure network to support economic activity, strengthen our supply chain, and remain a global power. I look forward to working with my fellow committee members to do just that. Demanding answers about President Biden's classified documents Last week, I joined nearly 50 of my Republican colleagues to send a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland regarding the classified documents discovered in President Biden’s possession. The letter requested that the Department of Justice urgently appoint a special counsel to investigate the issue. After the letter was sent, AG Garland announced that they had assigned a special counsel to the investigation. We demand immediate answers to the following questions: Did the White House request to withhold this information prior to the midterm elections? Why did the Biden Administration and the Department of Justice fail to disclose this information publicly?  Was Congress ever notified? If so, when? We will not let this issue just “go away.” We will hold President Biden to the same standard to which House Democrats recently held President Trump. Anything less would not be justice. Mann leads Colleagues on Letter to the Biden Administration requesting extension for Lesser Prairie-Chicken Listing Farmers are the original conservationists. If the federal government is going to hamstring them with burdensome and unnecessary regulations, producers at least deserve ample time to prepare for compliance before any new regulations go into effect. In my response to the recent ruling on the Lesser Prairie-Chicken (LPC), I demand just that. Last week, Senator Marshall and I led a group of 9 of our colleagues to send a letter to Secretary Deb Haaland at the U.S. Department of the Interior requesting that, if the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service insists on listing the LPC as threatened under the Endangered Species Act, it at least delay the effective date for the rule to April 1, 2023, rather than the end of this month. Requiring a third-party verified grazing plan on millions of acres of private land is nothing short of another government mandate on privately held lands. This rule wasn’t even published until late November. The LPC does not belong on the endangered species list in the first place, and now, Congress won’t get a chance to potentially act to strike down the rule until after it becomes effective. There is no question that this listing will hurt our nation’s agricultural economy, hinder our oil and gas independence, increase utility costs, and prevent the development of renewable energy. This is an unfair rule imposed on an unfair timeline, and I am doing everything within my power to oppose it. Click here to view the letter. Meeting with Live Cattle Marketing Committee Thank you, Troy Sander and Mike Drinnin, for visiting with me last week. Troy serves as the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s Live Cattle Marketing Committee Chairman and is a Kansas Livestock Association member. Mike serves as the Committee’s Vice Chair. We discussed the importance of Congress understanding cattle markets, feeding and sorting practices, and the significant labor shortages they are facing.  Agriculture is the heartbeat of the Big First. We rank number one in the country for beef production and for the value of cattle and calf sales, at more than $9 billion sold annually. I value Troy and Mike’s input on the current state of cattle markets, and I’m grateful for their advocacy on behalf of producers in Kansas and across the country. Meeting with Spirit AeroSystems Thank you, Tom Gentile and Chuck Cadena, for visiting with me last week. Tom is the Chief Executive Officer, and Chuck serves as the Vice President of Corporate Affairs, for Spirit AeroSystems - one of the world’s largest tier-one manufacturers and suppliers of aerostructures. Spirit came to Kansas in 1927 and has helped Kansas continue to raise the bar for aerospace development. Today, Kansas ranks as the third largest concentration of aviation workers in the United States and exports $2.3 billion in aerospace products annually.  Tom, Chuck, and I discussed Spirit’s innovative strides in engineering to offer new solutions for commercial and defense aircrafts, and the role they will play in Kansas for years to come.
