John,
Since 2018, Color Of Change has celebrated Martin Luther King Day as a day
of service to, for, and in honor of Black women. Our Serve Our Sisters
program grew from our Black Women’s Brunch series as reflection of our
commitment to build community through service and action while holding
decision-makers accountable on the systemic criminal justice issues
affecting our communities.
This year, we hosted Serve Our Sisters events across the country to
provide care packages for women impacted by incarceration. We stuffed bags
with personal items, such as lotion, shampoo, toothbrushes, soap, lip
balm, journals and handwritten notes of encouragement, for women
re-entering communities after incarceration. Studies show that Black women
are incarcerated at a disproportionate rate in the United States and face
many obstacles upon their release — unemployment, housing insecurity and
access to small business and education funding.
Black women were at the forefront of Dr. King’s fight for equality and
have been the heart of our historic, ongoing struggle for liberation. Our
annual Serve Our Sisters events play a role in helping to strengthen Black
women returning to our communities by providing care packages with basic
necessities — [ [link removed] ]John, will you consider making a gift of $25

In spite of our consistency and continued support to the nation, the
concerns of Black women go largely unanswered and are often exploited by
corporations and elected officials.
Serve Our Sisters is a celebration of the continuous civic engagement of
Black women and a call to action. Attendees experience the joy of bonding
through collective action, while thinking critically about what it means
to hold decision-makers accountable for addressing our issues. We have
good food, a solid DJ and conversations about what it means to be there
for our community.
In honor of MLK's legacy, let us renew our commitment to uplift the lives
and stories of Black women and celebrate our power to move our communities
forward. Your contribution will help cover the costs of this year's
in-person events led by COC members across the nation, and will ensure we
have the resources to support this important work going forward. [ [link removed] ]Will
