Students like me are taking on the gun industry and demanding accountability. Will you, whether you’re a student or not, join us?
This weekend in Las Vegas, I and other Students Demand Action volunteers went to confront the gun industry head-on at its annual trade show. Guns are the number one killer of kids and teens in America, yet the gun industry continues to make them deadlier, and refuse to take any responsibility for the harm they cause.
The gun industry has created a killer business and we're paying for it with our lives. That is why we are demanding action. Add your name if you're ready to join us in holding the gun industry accountable.
I got involved with Students Demand Action in 2018, when I was 14 years old, to honor victims of gun violence and gun violence survivors—but in those five years, hundreds of thousands more lives have been devastated by gun violence.
As each day goes on, my motivation to be a part of this movement grows, because the stakes only get higher. Enough is enough. We must hold the gun industry accountable because our lives depend on it. We cannot allow our lives to be beholden to gun industry executives and be silent while the gun industry profits from our blood.
The movement needs us. As young people, we bring an energy and sense of resiliency that is necessary to this work. We're following in the footsteps of young activists who took on the tobacco and opioid industries and won. Students must lead this movement because our lives depend on it.
I hope you will join us,
Laurence Fine
