Hey, John – Ben, Brett and Jordy here.

After a grueling four days of groveling and gossip, House Republicans finally galvanized enough cooperation to elect the leader of their party, Kevin McCarthy (CA-20), as the speaker of the House on the FIFTEENTH VOTE at 12:37 a.m.

And while we’d usually enjoy seeing the party of fascist MAGA extremism in utter turmoil over such a simple task, this is no laughing matter.

Why? Because they have an inability to govern outside of their own individual special interests.

All of McCarthy's backdoor agreements to dismantle ethical oversight, empower bad-faith extremist actors and tip the scale toward shady special interests made in the dead of night – all of this works to betray not only the democracy they have sworn under oath to uphold, but the needs of their own constituents and the American people as a whole.

The other reason this (comically embarrassing) roadblock was so serious is because the House of Representatives literally COULD NOT START DOING ITS JOB. A speaker has to be elected before any other business can be attended to – not just passing bills, but even swearing in new members and voting on the rules for the new session.

So while the GOP got almost a full extra workweek to goof off, they should now be unencumbered to clock in and start their actual job – governing.

Now, does this mean that the hardliners of the “Freedom Caucus” will quit holding Congress hostage in other ways to get their 15 seconds of Fox News fame and ingratiate themselves to Donald Trump and his ever-shrinking fanbase? We can’t yet say.

That’s why we’re cutting through the GOP’s crap and launching a survey to see what unapologetically pro-democracy activists like YOU want to see the new Congress get done – now that they can finally start doing their jobs. So please, John, add your voice to the survey and tell us:

WHAT SHOULD THE 118TH CONGRESS PRIORITIZE?
