You know, 2023 is set to be an immensely important year in the fight for reproductive rights. We know that when access to abortion is restricted, lives are at risk, and this must change.
In the United States, dozens of state legislatures are kicking off their legislative session for 2023 and abortion rights are in the crosshairs. Anti-abortion politicians are moving to pass new abortion bans—bans that restrict bodily autonomy and that contribute to a 62% higher maternal death rate in those states compared to states where abortion is more easily accessible.
Today, I'm asking you to make your first gift to the Center for Reproductive Rights to ensure we have the resources we need for the upcoming challenges of 2023.
We need you with us.
The Center has dismantled legal barriers to reproductive health care in some of the most challenging environments in the world, and that expertise will matter more this year than ever before.
By renewing your support for the Center today, you will help fight against anti-abortion legislation, ensure access to medication abortion, and advance policies that improve reproductive health care around the globe.
The stakes have never been higher. In 2022 alone, over 35 abortion restrictions were enacted in states across the U.S. In Kenya, the Center and partners secured the right to abortion, but anti-abortion activists are taking this back to the courts. In war torn Ukraine, reproductive health care is increasingly hard to find. Around the world there are people without or at risk of losing access to their fundamental human right to reproductive health care, and the Center will work around the clock filing cases to restore and protect abortion access.
This will be a long and sustained fight, and we will need you with us this year.
I urge you to renew your 2023 support for the Center for Reproductive Rights with your most generous gift possible this year.
With gratitude,
Nancy Northup
