Folks,

I hope you had a joyful holiday season with your friends and family. After a hectic 2022, I'm thankful to have been able to enjoy some much-needed downtime with Louise and the rest of the family. Together, we celebrated the holidays, ate some great food, watched a ton of football and had a lot of laughs.

I also took time to reflect on the past year and think about all the great work we accomplished together. With your help, we traveled to (ahem, this is pretty long) Tennessee, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, Kansas, Seattle, Idaho, Nevada, Oklahoma, Colorado, Ohio, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Iowa, and Virginia.

We helped elect some great candidates to keep our democracy on track. And we went to places a lot of folks wrote off because I believe so strongly that we have to have a voice everywhere if we want to have a voice anywhere.

Every stop we made wasn’t just to help Democrats outperform expectations in 2022 – it was to build the party and invest in the future. We connected with diverse groups of voters and brought some new voices to participate in our democracy. I'm so proud of the work we did in every race - win or lose.

But our work is far from complete.

If we’re going to defeat far-right extremists, we have to continue to make inroads with voters from all walks of life. We learned this firsthand when we made history in Alabama, and that lesson still holds true today.

We simply can’t take our foot off the gas just because the 2022 election is over. The MAGA extremists are still out there and, to some extent, still in control of the Republican Party, just look at what happened in the House last week. The chaos isn’t stopping, and the most extreme members of Congress have now gained even more power. Their stranglehold on the legislative process will surely push our country closer to the brink this year. Whether it’s playing dangerous games with the debt ceiling or conducting clown show investigatory hearings motivated by pure political use animus, we will witness one of the most divisive and ineffective sessions of the House in a long time.

The stakes of the 2024 election are even higher than before, and it’s never too early to get ready. One of the biggest mistakes I’ve witnessed firsthand is our inability to get started early. We always seem to relax right after an election instead of maintaining momentum for the next. We simply can’t do that anymore.

The far-right is an organized, well-funded political machine that works 365 days a year, every year. You better believe that they’re already focused on taking back the White House and the Senate in 2024. We lose if we don’t match their effort and their intensity.

What has made our work together unique is that we took our message to states and communities that many national Democrats ignored. Over the next two years, I’m planning on continuing that work. But once again, I will need your help. I’m grateful for all the support you gave me this past year, and I hope I can count on you to stand with me on the right side of history as we continue to move forward on this journey together.
