Dear Friends --
The climate crisis is getting worse because of the housing crisis.
California's housing shortage and affordability crisis is increasing the pollution that causes climate change, exacerbating the risk of deadly and destructive wildfires while simultaneously forcing more Californians to live in harm's way.
According to climate researchers, making it legal to build more multi-family housing near jobs, schools, and transit is one of the most powerful tools we have to combat the climate crisis.
That's why California YIMBY produced this video – and are asking you to help spread the word by sharing it today!

We made this video in 2021 to help explain the connection between housing and climate to a wider audience of Californians. It's still as important as ever, especially as we gear up for the year ahead.
In 2023, our intent is to push even harder to ensure that the state's efforts to end the housing shortage and affordability crisis are fully aligned with efforts to both address the growing risks of climate change, and expand opportunities for homeownership.
We'll be asking you to step up several times this year to urge policymakers to enact smart land use reforms that reduce climate pollution from long car commutes, preserve valuable open space and farmlands, and making our state more resilient to climate change – while creating new pathways to homeownership, away from risk of wildfires.
Our first ask of you in 2023 is to help spread the word and educate more of our fellow Californians about the nexus between the housing shortage and affordability crisis, and our climate crisis. Please share this video today!
Thank you for taking action,
Matthew
