Hi there -- protecting Washington’s natural resources is one of my priorities as Attorney General.

In October, I led a coalition of attorneys general to oppose a new Environmental Protection Agency rule that would prevent Washington and other states from protecting our waterways. The president didn’t listen to widespread public opposition and illegally moved forward with the change, so in December, I filed a federal lawsuit to stop it.

Trump is using the EPA to systematically dismantle our ability to protect our environment against corporate polluters and climate change, attacking everything from our vehicle emissions standards to the Clean Power Plan and now the Clean Water Act. The president isn’t just a climate denier -- he’s actively promoting policies that will exacerbate the climate crisis.

If this proposed rule is allowed to go into effect, the Trump administration will have significantly reduced the number of waterways protected by the Clean Water Act. It will make it especially difficult for states like Washington, with waterways heavily impacted by upstream pollution in other states, to keep our water clean and safe.

The Trump administration’s strategy on the environment is simple: put profits over people. And when the White House chooses corporate donors over the American people and our country’s natural resources, we all lose.

I have challenged this rule and dozens of other proposed rollbacks of environmental regulations that would hurt our state because I am committed to defending Washingtonians and the planet against climate change -- even when the White House won’t. This is our 54th challenge to the president and so far we are undefeated. Our fight to protect the planet is going to take all of us, and I won’t allow powerful interests, including our own federal government, to stop us.

More updates on our climate efforts coming soon.

Bob
