Dear Jack,

Today we remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the legacy he left for all Americans. Truly, he was a man who saw things not just as they were, but as they could be - and his dream of justice, equality and freedom lives today not only within the hearts of Americans but in the hearts and minds of peoples across the world. Dr. King's fight to end segregation and racial discrimination through peaceful protests changed racial perspectives nationwide. The refining of our national character because of Dr. King's leadership and success fighting the scourge of racism in our great country led President Ronald Reagan to declare a federal holiday in Dr. King's honor, observed for the first time on January 20, 1986.  Thirty-seven years later, we continue to remember, honor, and celebrate Dr. King's work and his legacy, as a reminder to us all to emulate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and stand firm in times of challenge and controversy.

Remembering MLK,
