More than half of the GOP members who repeatedly blocked the selection of a House Speaker are from states with gerrymandered maps. Because map manipulation all but guarantees their reelection, politicians like Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Jim Jordan can focus on energizing the fringe elements of their base rather than on governing.
