The 118th Congress is in place and now it is time to move forward with our conservative agenda. We have set the wheels in motion with a rules package that will enable the House of Representatives to conduct business as it should be done on behalf of the American people

H.R. 23, The Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act

This week, House Republicans passed this important legislation to defund the Biden Administration's plan to hire 87,000 new IRS agents. The last thing American citizens need is the constant threat of an audit and other invasive measures when they are trying to put food on the table. Additionally, small business owners should not be burdened with more federal government red tape that could interfere with day-to-day operations.

The House of Representatives has adopted H.Res.11, which establishes a Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party. The sixteen-member committee will investigate and make policy recommendations on the status of the Chinese Communist Party's economic, technological, and security progress and its competition with the U.S.

Ann Marie Chilcutt Miller is a fifth generation member of her family to take the reins of the New Home Building Store in Columbus. In 1939, the operation began as a lumber mill. Over the years, the family expanded their goods and services to adapt to customer needs. That strategy has served them well to this day. "You have to be adaptable with a willingness to change," Anne Marie said. "You also have to be operationally efficient." She is optimistic about the passage of the Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act to help protect small businesses. "We're already doing things right. More audits take you away from doing business and make it frustrating to thrive."

I am pleased to introduce Emma Hatcher, our spring intern in the Washington, D.C., office. The Golden Triangle native graduated in 2017 from Mississippi State University with a bachelor of science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, emphasizing Business, English, and Animal Science. By 2019, she was working as a lead editor for a global-reach 501(c)(3) in Colorado. In 2020, Emma opened a book editing and publishing support company in Mississippi. While working as a secretary for the Federal Programs office of Shelby County Schools Board of Education in Alabama, a former Capitol Hill intern suggested Emma consider a Congressional internship. She quickly decided to apply. Emma is the daughter of Eric "Lee" Hatcher and Lenora Hatcher.

congressional app Challenge winner

Congratulations to Isaac Chamorro, the Congressional App Challenge (CAC) winner for Mississippi's First Congressional District. The Oxford High School 11th grade student submitted an app called "Nutrate". It was developed to help users form their diet and track meals and nutritional intake. Lauren Miltner, Isaac's mother, said her son has always been interested in maintaining a healthy diet. "I am so proud. He is a phenomenal person who has always been considered gifted," Lauren said.

The Congressional App Challenge is a program which encourages middle and high school students to learn to code and consider a career in computer science. Winning apps may be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building. Additionally, winning students are invited to the House of Code Capitol Hill Reception in Washington, D.C.
