John, today is not just a day off, but a day to reflect on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Dr. King was a man whose commitment to equality changed America forever. Through his tireless activism and deep commitment to justice, he inspired our nation and our world to fulfill the promise of freedom and equality for all.
But as we pause to commemorate the life of Dr. King, we cannot, in good faith, celebrate his work without acknowledging the forces that are actively working against it.
This past year alone, Republicans have pushed more than 400 voter suppression bills across the country designed to keep Black and brown voters away from the ballot box. It's despicable, and it's past time we fight back.
Dr. King called on Congress to provide "a strong, moral and courageous leadership."
That's why, in honor of Dr. King's legacy, I'm calling on Congress to pass comprehensive voting rights legislation, and I hope you'll join me: Sign on to my urgent petition to condemn the GOP's attacks on voting rights and defend access to the ballot box for all. I'm looking for 5,000 signatures by midnight, but I'm still missing your name.

Let’s make this our most powerful action yet.
In solidarity,
Barbara Lee
