The reasons for immigration-enforcement advocates’ dissatisfaction
Washington, D.C. (January 16, 2023) – The Center for Immigration Studies complements its earlier analyses of the Biden administration’s new border strategy with a short summary document covering what’s in the plan, why it falls short, and policy options that would better address the crisis at the southern border.
The summary discusses the Biden border plan’s four components:
* Creation of three new parole programs
* Creation of a mobile phone app for border-crossers
* Expanding the use of expedited removal
* A forthcoming regulation to revive the third-country transit policy

Elizabeth Jacobs, the Center’s director of regulatory affairs and policy and author of the summary document, said, “Much of the Biden border plan is designed to hide mass illegal immigration from public view, not discourage it.”

“In order to effectively deter illegal immigration across the southern border the Biden administration must commit to closing loopholes in the asylum system and reviving either the Migrant Protection Protocols ([link removed]) (MPP, commonly known as the “Remain in Mexico” program) or resuming mandatory detention (as is required by law ([link removed]) ) for aliens who illegally cross the border,” writes Jacobs.
