Dear Friend,
Last week, I had the honor of taking the oath of office to continue serving the people of Colorado. That means I can continue advancing our mission at the Attorney General’s office: “Together, we serve the people of Colorado, advancing the rule of law, protecting our democracy, and promoting justice for all.” My remarks, upon being sworn in, can be watched here [[link removed]] .
Every day, I am humbled by the privilege of doing this important work. As we do so, we honor the spirit of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose powerful call to do justice is posted at the entrance of the Ralph Carr Judicial Center, where we work.

We live at a time when threats to the rule of law, our democracy, and equal justice for all are considerable. As we meet these challenges, I will keep in mind another powerful teaching of Dr. King: “ darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that; hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.”
Together, we can repair our world and do so with love towards one another, remembering that we are all Americans and we can advance the highest ideals of our nation. As we honor Dr. King today and begin the work of a new term, this is the spirit that will guide us.
Phil
