John,
This Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we are still fighting for racial justice, for an end to poverty, and for communities to have what they need to thrive. The racial wealth gap keeps widening, and our anti-Black criminal legal system continues to criminalize communities like ours.
Transformative change only happens with grassroots groups carrying on MLK’s legacy for liberation.
That includes Michigan Liberation, a network organizing to end the criminalization of Black families and communities of color in Michigan.
I’ve been honored to help fundraise for their work to cover cash bail, freeing Michigan caregivers who’ve been in cages simply because they can’t afford to pay. People who have been formerly incarcerated and their loved ones lead the group—and build leadership among other directly impacted people. Together, they run campaigns to transform our criminal legal system and to create a more just world today.
Can you chip in $5 or more to the Michigan Liberation Education Fund to continue MLK’s fight for freedom and justice?
As Michigan Liberation Executive Director Rai LaNier said: “People who are closest to the problem are closest to the solutions, but furthest away from resources and power. How are we connecting directly impacted people to the resources and the power that they need to have thriving communities?”
This MLK Day, donate to the Michigan Liberation Education Fund to fight for racial justice.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your secure donation will go through immediately, with 100% going directly to Michigan Liberation Education Fund
In service and solidarity,
Rashida
