Friend,

I’m Representative Ron Reynolds, and it’s been my honor to represent TX House District 27 and to serve as Chairman of the Texas Legislative Black Caucus. And as the first African American state representative in Fort Bend County since Reconstruction, I reflect on the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and what it means to me as we enter the 88th Texas Legislative Session.

Martin Luther King Jr. was a revolutionary: his vision for a more perfect union rebuilt on the politics of love, liberation and equality changed society -- repaving the road to freedom so that Americans like me and you can reside in a more just nation.

Democracy. Freedom. Racial and social justice. Community. Equal opportunities for all. Dr. King’s historic message is something that we as Texas Democrats use as a foundation to legislate on behalf of working families, help our neighbors, and raise our kids.

Today, we celebrate the legacy of Dr. King’s gospel of freedom, and all those who have carried the fight for racial justice forward. And tomorrow, we return to the Pink Dome with a refreshed sense of public service and what it means to fight like hell against all forms of oppression.

Sincerely,

Representative Ron Reynolds
Chairman, Texas Legislative Black Caucus
