HAPPENING NOW: a rally at the Supreme Court featuring Senate Democrats reintroducing the Democracy For All Amendment.

When the Supreme Court’s conservative majority opened the floodgates for Big Money in our elections with its Citizens United ruling, it caused massive harm to our democracy. By restricting lawmakers' ability to limit spending by corporations and secret money special interest groups, the amount of Big Money in recent elections has skyrocketed to previously unfathomable levels. BILLIONS of dollars are poured into each election cycle and it's a safe assumption that the 2020 election cycle will be record setting.
But it doesn't have to be this way -- and it shouldn't.
Just today, Senate Democrats reintroduced the Democracy For All amendment at a rally with activists outside the Supreme Court. And just recently New Hampshire became the 20th state to signal support for an amendment to address the harm caused by Citizens United and related cases.
There is more energy than ever to see that this amendment passes in Congress!
The amendment would allow Congress and the states to set commonsense rules for the raising and spending of money in our elections, and to distinguish in doing so between people and corporations. The measure provides the important clarification that nothing in the amendment should be construed to abridge the freedom of the press. The amendment also rejects the current Supreme Court’s misguided interpretation that the only basis for campaign finance regulation is to address corruption in the form of quid pro quo bribery.
