In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and in the interests of social justice, we must all work together!
We define the future our children are inheriting. We can choose to be a product of an intentionally divided tribal society or buck the odds and work together. We are not Democrats, Republicans, or independents, we are Americans: we must put our brains before our brawn and prejudices or be divided.
This is our collective responsibility. Our own actions and communications and unity or division will determine what we leave for our posterity. Our responsibility is to NOT allow prejudice and division to infect our constituency.
I am working actively with “No Dem Left Behind” and local activists to advance a specific statewide ballot initiative in Colorado. That initiative will be “The Protecting Our Schools and Teachers Initiative.” We have seen in just the last week an elementary school teacher shot by her seven year old student while giving a lesson.

The prevalence of firearms in our society and a lack of common sense regulations require a common sense, proven solution that will keep guns out of our schools. We keep them out of airports, we can keep them out of our schools. We have to prevent firearms and ammunition from being carried in through the front doors of our schools, period.
“The Protecting Our Schools and Teachers Initiative” will do just that. It will establish a statewide one penny tax on every beverage (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) sold in Colorado.
This State fund would be married with a standardized state application for the federal funding allocated after Sandy Hook and Uvalde (1.3 billion). The office of the Governor, working with the state Department of Education, would be directed by the people to implement an organized application for federal funding for every Colorado school. We must ensure the security of every Colorado school and give our students and teachers the safe space they require to educate and develop our students for successful participation in our society.
Statewide, standardized school security protocols must be designed, installed, randomly inspected, and enforced by the Office of the Attorney General with an appropriate entity established for this purpose.
At the direction of the people, “The Protecting our Schools and Teachers Initiative” would immediately establish statewide standardization and installation of security equipment and personnel at every Colorado school.
Professional security and detection equipment are needed at every Colorado school immediately.
We will design this initiative, this demand, this bill, this mandate from the people in order to direct our representatives and government to accomplish the work of the people. Together we can protect our kids in every Colorado school and ensure Federal funding to do so is brought into our state!
I am a combat wounded retired Marine Corps Officer and father of four school age kids in Douglas County Colorado. I live not far from Columbine. My son was in school when the Stem Highlands Ranch shooting occurred. No parent or child should ever have to experience that trauma. We can, no, we must secure our schools.

Thank you for your trust and continued support!
I will never quit!
Sincerely and Respectfully,
