January 15, 2023

Dear Georgian,

Tomorrow we honor the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who led our nation to a more perfect union under his gospel of freedom. Dr. King's memorial in D.C. features Amos 5:24, which says: "But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream."

In light of those verses and words from Dr. King, let us remember that all human life is created equally.

Last week we celebrated National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, where we recognized and thanked our law enforcement officers who make sacrifices to ensure our community's safety.

I am grateful for all of our nation's law enforcement officers, especially those in Georgia's Eighth! My D.C. office showed our appreciation to the Capitol Police by having them over for pizza. Tell your local officers thank you today!

Congratulations to the DAWGS for staying on top and winning back to back National Championships! I am proud to co-sponsor a resolution officially congratulating the Georgia Bulldogs football team for winning the 2023 NCAA College Football National Championship Game! GO DAWGS! See y’all next season!

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. Protecting America's Strategic Petroleum Reserves

Under the Biden Administration, Democrats gave away our energy independence and left the OPEC Cartel in charge of our fuel costs while selling oil from our Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) to our adversaries in China.

As a member of the House Energy Action Team, I voted for the Protecting America's Strategic Petroleum Reserve from China Act which prohibits the sale of oil from our reserves to an entity affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) or any entity that intends to export it to China.

Biden's anti-American energy policies drove up the price of gas in this country, and selling off our reserves only helped the CCP.

This legislation was passed with bipartisan support by a vote of 331-97.

Passing the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act

Last week, I voted in favor of the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act when it passed in the House of Representatives.

This legislation guarantees that any child born alive during a failed abortion procedure will be treated with the appropriate medical care that all other children receive. You may not realize, but abortions are not always successful, and many children have been born alive after a failed abortion attempt in the United States.

Some states do not guarantee medical care for children who are born alive, and this has led to unnecessary deaths of those children.

According to our Declaration of Independence, every child born in the United States has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Thank you to my colleagues in the House who helped pass this vital legislation that gives infants born alive the rights they deserve. I will always stand up for the right to life, and I look forward to passing more pro-life legislation this congress.

Defunding IRS Overreach

I also voted to defund the 87,000 IRS agents that the left created last Congress to audit small businesses and families.

The Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act repeals the IRS enforcement funding passed under the so-called Inflation Reduction Act and ends this unnecessary harassment from an already dysfunctional agency.

Thanks to the left's overspending, Americans already pay more for things needed in everyday life, like food and gas. There is no reason for the government to place blame on hard-working American taxpayers.

Defunding these new IRS agents allows for less government overreach, and as your representative, I am working hard to defend my constituents who work every day to provide for their families.

Fox News | 'Republicans react to Biden's classified docs in his garage: ‘so many questions, I don't know where to start'

"'I can’t imagine a scenario where you accidentally left classified information in your garage next to your Corvette,' Georgia Republican Rep. Austin Scott told Fox News Digital. 'There are so many questions, I don’t know where to start.'

'If anyone in our military had done this, it would be a career-ending mistake, and they would have been dishonorably discharged,' Scott continued."

Just the News | Georgia Rep. Scott warns new federal law on US waterway will impact more than farmers

"GOP Rep. Austin Scott said Thursday that the new 'Waters of the U.S.' regulatory rule will not only hurt American farmers, but could impact everyone with government overreach.

'The heavy hand of the federal government does not believe in private property rights,' the Georgia congressman said on the John Solomon Reports podcast. 'People need to be paying attention to this, because if they can do it to the farmer, they can do it to any business owner. If they can do it to any business owner, they can do it to any American.'"
