John, as we’re sure you’ve heard by now, Kevin McCarthy was forced to make major concessions to MAGA extremists like Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert in his extremely long and drawn-out bid for Speaker of the House. Here are some of the most concerning ones:
MCCARTHY’S CONCESSIONS:
|
- Any lawmaker from either party will be able to force a vote on removing the Speaker of the House (yes, ANY lawmaker).
- MAGA Republicans are expected to receive highly-coveted committee assignments.
- The debt ceiling can’t be raised, meaning we’ll likely see an attempt to reduce spending on Social Security and Medicare.
- A new subcommittee under the House Judiciary Committee will be established and will have access to any information shared with the House Intelligence Committee, chaired by none other than Jim Jordan.
|
And those are just the ones we know about.
There’s no telling what the implications of McCarthy’s concessions could be, but right now, it’s not looking good, John. Are you as worried as we are that the concessions Kevin McCarthy made to secure victory could pose a danger to our democracy? Let us know by taking our survey:
