Friends, Today we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and reflect on his ideas and activism. From voting rights for Black Americans to public education equity to striving for an end to poverty, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s tireless work has impacted generations as we strive for liberty and justice for all to this day. His legacy is the heartbeat of the social justice movement today and is a great source of inspiration for me as a lawmaker. And while we are still living in a divisive, difficult time in our nation’s history, it’s powerful forces like Dr. King that give me hope that we can once again make bold, progressive changes for the social good of the country. With these ideas in mind, I recommit to Dr. King’s vision for total political enfranchisement and voting freedom. And I invite you, friends, to reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy with me. — Eric Swalwell |
