Check out this breaking news from the New York Daily News:
George Santos funneled $25,000 to Lee Zeldin’s campaign for governor — then reimbursed himself, review shows
George Santos, new congressman and notorious liar, made a $25,000 loan to his political action committee, which then made the donation to Zeldin’s campaign. Months later, Santos reimbursed himself for the loan, once the PAC was flush with money from his own donors.
John, Santos used shady campaign finance moves to have his supporters effectively bankroll a $25,000 contribution he funneled to Lee Zeldin’s Republican gubernatorial bid.
When we talk about big money in politics and shady back-door dealings, this is exactly what we’re talking about.
CREW is on the frontlines, fighting to expose these shady deals and to get dark money out of politics. Help support our work by making a donation to CREW today →
People donated money to George Santos’s campaign because he was a Jewish leader, because of the education he got at the colleges he attended, his experience on Wall Street, because of his animal charity work, and more.
Turns out, these were all lies. And on top of that, Santos turned around and used their money to bankroll another campaign.
Lies from elected officials and shady deals like this should not be allowed in politics. CREW has been working for years on issues like this, winning cases against dark money groups, pushing for reform, and exposing the donors behind secret money being spent in our elections.
If you agree we need to get secret money out of politics, and bring more transparency to our government, then please make a donation today to support CREW’s work →
