House Republicans pledged to defund Biden’s IRS army.
On Monday, we passed The Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act to block the 87,000 IRS agents hired through the Inflation “Reduction” Act and stop the Biden administration from targeting middle-class Americans and small businesses with increased audits.
House Republicans promised to hold communist China accountable and establish a government that’s accountable.
On Tuesday, we established a Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government to root out corruption and abuse in the federal government. Then, we established the Select Committee on Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in order to hold the CCP accountable for its harmful actions.
House Republicans made a commitment to defending life.
On Wednesday, we passed the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act and a resolution condemning the nearly 80 documented attacks on pro-life facilities, groups, and churches following the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization Supreme Court decision leak.
House Republicans planned to restore America’s energy independence.
On Thursday, we passed the Protecting America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve from China Act in order to defend our energy security and ensure NO oil from our Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) is sold to Communist China.
In one week, we’ve made measurable progress on four of the most important issues impacting the American people today. I mean it when I say I’m serious about building a nation that’s safe, an economy that’s strong, a future that’s built on freedom, and a government that’s accountable. The First District sent me to Washington to deliver on that goal and I can proudly say that our conference is hitting the ground running.
We made promises, and now we’re keeping them. Can Washington Democrats say the same?

(Fox News) - Republicans in the House of Representatives will vote on a bill that would abolish the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), eliminate the national income tax and replace it with a national consumption tax.
Fox News Digital has learned that the House will be voting on Georgia Republican Rep. Buddy Carter's reintroduced Fair Tax Act that aims to reel in the IRS and remove the national income tax, as well as other taxes, and replace them with a single consumption tax.
The vote on the bill was made as part of the deal between House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., and members of the House Freedom Caucus and was pushed forward in his quest for the gavel last week.

Monday, January 9, 2023: Talk about a short weekend! After getting home late Saturday night following the theatrics of the Speaker’s election in the House last week, I’m back at the airport less than 36 hours later for my return trip to Washington. Because of the change in schedule for our Conference organizing procedures, my plans to be with my family at the National Championship game in Los Angeles are out the window and instead I’m back at it in Washington, D.C.
Once at the Capitol, I have a virtual interview with Fox 28 in Savannah to discuss the community funding requests that the City of Pooler will be receiving to assist in infrastructure projects in their growing City.
After our all staff conference call, I spend the afternoon with staff reviewing and practicing my presentation for Budget Chair to the Republican Steering Committee tonight. After our first vote series at 6:30PM, I head to my Steering Committee interview that goes exceptionally well thanks to the outstanding work done by our staff in preparation.
Later, after returning to my office for more work, I head back to the Chamber for our second vote series of the day and, on the way, I get a call from Speaker Kevin McCarthy giving me the very disappointing news that the Steering Committee has chosen someone else for the position of Budget Chair. Although extremely disappointed, I am very proud of the work and preparation that our staff has put into this effort.
After our second vote series, I remain in the House Chamber where I pay tribute to National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day that is being celebrated today.

Tuesday, January 10, 2023: After our weekly GOP Conference meeting, the first in which newly elected Speaker Kevin McCarthy presides, I head to the House Chamber where I pay tribute to two of my suitemates when I served in the Georgia House of Representatives, Mark Butler and Jon Burns. After an outstanding 20-year career in public service, as a Georgia House member and then the Commissioner of Labor, Mark has recently retired. Yesterday, Jon was elected the 75th Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives. A lifelong resident of Effingham County, Jon and I were elected to the Georgia House in 2004 and I could not be any prouder of my good friend. I also pay tribute to Atlanta United soccer player Thiago Almada and the University of Georgia Archway Partnership.
Afterwards, I head to an Energy and Commerce (E&C) roundtable where we have witnesses testifying on the rising cost of energy and the impact it is having on their lives and businesses.
Once back in my office, I have a virtual interview with Nexstar regarding the Fair Tax Act that I have introduced this session. When I first arrived in Congress over 8 years ago, the very first piece of legislation that I co-sponsored was the Fair Tax Act. After Rep. Rob Woodall retired from Congress four years ago, I became the sponsor of the Fair Tax Act, and it has been the first piece of legislation I have introduced each session since then.
Next, I have an in-office interview with the Atlanta Journal Constitution (AJC) to discuss the Fair Tax Act, the Georgia Bulldogs National Championship, and other news of the day.
Before heading to the House Chamber for our only vote series of the day, I have a number of staff meetings. After our vote series, I remain in the House Chamber where I don my red blazer and pay tribute to the 2023 NCAA National Champion Georgia Bulldogs.
Next, I head to the Rayburn Room near the House Chamber where I join other Republican members as part of the audience for the taping of tonight’s Hannity on Fox News.
My last meeting of the day is with Dutch members of Parliament who are visiting the Capitol today.

Wednesday, January 11, 2023: After an interview with WSB-TV to discuss the Fair Tax Act, I have an on-camera interview with One America News (OAN) to again discuss the Fair Tax Act before heading to the House Chamber.
After paying tribute to former Georgia Pharmacists Association (GPhA) President Robert Bowles, Jr., Brian Tuten, and Ed Livingston from Benedictine Military Academy in Savannah, the Camden and McIntosh Counties Sherriff’s Departments, and the Terry College of Business at the UGA, I head to an E&C roundtable discussion regarding the Fentanyl crisis.
Next, I head to a meeting of the conservative Republican Study Committee (RSC) before heading back to my office for an interview with the Boston Globe to discuss the Fair Tax Act.
After a meeting with CMA CGM group, one of the largest shipping companies in the world, I have another on camera interview with OAN on the Fair Tax Act.
Next, I meet with Congressional Budget Office (CBO) Director Phil Swagel before yet another interview on the Fair Tax Act, this time with Semafor.
After a meeting with a PhD candidate from the Washington area who is writing a dissertation on leadership in Congress, I have a zoom call with a constituent from Liberty County to discuss military housing costs in the area.
Next, I head to the House Chamber for our only vote series of the day and afterwards remain in the Chamber and pay tribute to Rick Deasy congratulating him on his retirement from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynn County.

Thursday, January 12, 2023: Our guest at our weekly GOP Doc Caucus meeting this morning is former Assistant Secretary of Preparedness and Response (ASPR) Dr. Bob Kadlec, who now serves as Senior Counsel to the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee.
After a fascinating discussion on the origin of the COVID-19 virus, I head to an E&C breakfast where we welcome nine new members to the committee, including my Georgia colleague and good friend, Rep. Rick Allen (R-GA).
Next, I have a radio interview with my good friend, Martha Zoller in Gainesville to discuss the Fair Tax Act before heading to the House Chamber where I speak on the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) China bill that is being voted on today.
Afterwards, I remain in the House Chamber for our last vote of the week and pay tribute to Lee Butler of Savannah who recently passed.
Once back in my office, I have a phone interview with the Savannah Morning News (SMN) to discuss the community funding requests awarded to the City of Pooler before having an interview with the Washington Post to discuss the Fair Tax Act.
Next, I film a pro-life video and afterwards join in on our all staff conference call before having an on-camera interview with Gray TV to discuss the Fair Tax Act.
After filming this week’s edition of Buddy’s Briefing, I have a live interview with Tony Perkins on Washington Watch to discuss right to life issues.
