Kevin McCarthy is emailing his supporters and telling any Capitol Hill reporter who cares to listen the same thing: He is following through on his promise to remove me from the House Intelligence Committee for holding Trump and his allies accountable for their attack on our democracy.
He is even giving donors a button to push if they want to eject me from the committee, and using one of the most important committees in Congress as a political plaything.
But this is so much bigger than that.
One of Republicans’ very first acts of Congress was to open a new “Investigate the Investigators” committee. It’s all about validating their “deep state” conspiracy theories and their dangerous nonsense.
This is a naked attempt to undermine the legitimate investigation of Donald Trump’s incitement of a violent attack on the Capitol — an investigation that implicates the very Republican House members who are now trying to sit on this committee.

Let’s be crystal clear about something, John:
Republicans in Congress want to block the FBI and other law enforcement agencies from investigating domestic violent extremism because some of their extreme MAGA supporters are implicated in these investigations.
MAGA rioters used the cover of more than 100 Republicans who voted to overturn the 2020 election to fight the Capitol Police and ransack the Capitol.
The last time McCarthy had his way in the House majority, he helped create the Benghazi select committee for the express purpose of tearing down Hillary Clinton’s poll numbers. Now, he’s at it again — with another partisan political exercise that will undermine our national security and democracy.
