We surveyed community-based organizations about how the opioid crisis is affecting older adults they serve. What we found reveals a lot about the difficulties faced by families struggling with the ripple effects of opioid addiction.

NCOA invites photographers to submit work that explores the artistic expression of Aging Well for All—how older adults are making the most of their longevity. There is no limitation as to the subject matter. Show us your favorite photographic shots of older adults! Open to all ideas, all styles, and genres, all perspectives on craftsmanship and photographic creativity.

  • Encouraging Senior Centers to be Learning Organizations: Research will be presented from a recent national study of senior centers as learning organizations, including centers’ areas of strength and weaknesses, and potential points of intervention will be discussed. Tools will be shared with attendees who will have the opportunity to discuss lessons learned and best practices as a group. Jan. 16 @ 2 p.m. ET
  • Solutions to Behavioral Health Workforce Shortages and Lack of Funding: This webinar will look at new and increased efforts to improve recruitment for and training capacity in many mental health disciplines. In addition, we’ll explore the use of tele-behavioral health programs and policy initiatives such as funding the Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training Program. Jan. 21 @ 12 p.m. ET

  • Elder Index™ gets updated: The Elder Index™ measures the income that older adults need to meet their basic needs and age in place with dignity. It has recently been updated with estimated 2019 data which suggest that half of older adults living alone, and 23% of older adults living in two-elder households, lack the financial resources required to pay for basic needs.
