THE EPA MUST REDEFINE HEALTHY AIR STANDARDS

Everyone deserves to breathe clean air, it’s that simple. A recent rule proposed by the EPA could create cleaner air for families and drastically reduce the number of pollution-related deaths and illnesses in this country, which overwhelmingly affect children and seniors.

Tell the EPA to set a standard that will protect the health of our children, our parents, and our grandparents — and to not be swayed by corporate polluters who want to keep these unsafe pollution limits!

63 million Americans experience unhealthy spikes in daily soot, or particle pollution, and more than 20 million Americans experience dangerous levels of soot pollution year-round.

A recent study found that soot exposure from power plants, cars, trucks, and other industrial sources disproportionately burdens Black and Hispanic populations who are more likely to work and live near these highly-concentrated pollution areas.

This is unacceptable.

The EPA has proposed to strengthen soot standards that haven’t been reviewed in over a decade. They must seize this moment and enact the strongest science-based soot standards to clean our air, advance environmental justice, and protect our health.

We need to submit at least 30,000 comments to make this a reality — can we count you in? Urge the EPA to act now to prevent future illness by imposing the strongest possible standards on soot.

The Trump administration had the chance to update this rule — but despite receiving clear evidence that soot exposure increases your chances of dying from COVID-19, they refused to act in the best interest of families across the country.

Now, it’s time for the Biden administration to listen to 167 public health and environmental organizations and set soot standards that could save 20,000 lives a year.

Setting stronger soot safeguards will not only protect our health from dangerous and deadly pollutants, but also accelerate the transition to a clean energy economy.

Tell the EPA and Biden administration to swiftly pass a strong rule that matches the president’s commitments to cut dangerous pollution and protect our health and environment.
