Friend,
"We're gonna get to climate change but I want to stay on trade."
That was the response from Democratic presidential debate moderators last night when Bernie Sanders tried to tie climate to trade -- and insist they are one and the same. (Because, well, they are.)
And that's how it was all night -- candidates pushing for more debate about climate, while moderators waited until the final half hour of the debate to briefly focus on unquestionably the most important issue of our lifetime.
It's because candidates are listening: Last night, Senator Warren, Senator Sanders, Mayor Buttigieg, and Tom Steyer all brought up climate in their answers to questions about trade and national security because they know climate affects every issue and every living thing on this planet.
So while the media, the same channels that rely on huge advertising buys from Big Oil, continue to ignore the climate crisis, our Democratic candidates are stepping up. Last night's debate was proof our push for a bigger focus on climate is working, and we can't let up before the Iowa caucuses next month: Share the news about candidates' climate-focused answers on Facebook right now, and keep up the drumbeat for the primaries next month!
Very truly yours,
Jay
