John,
Good news! The Justice Department has announced that abortion pills can be mailed to states with abortion bans.
For the past few years, medication abortions have accounted for the majority of abortions in the U.S. The prescription drugs mifepristone and misoprostol are safe and FDA-approved to induce abortions up to 10 weeks into pregnancy.
And in states where medication abortion is legal, mifepristone will soon be more accessible at retail pharmacies with a prescription.
However, we still have to fight for access nationwide. Republican-led states will keep trying to restrict medication abortion along with other restrictions, and now the Republican-led House of Representatives is taking up anti-abortion measures.
For the first time since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last year, Republicans have a majority in the U.S. House—and are driving the policy agenda in Congress.
It didn’t take them long—this past week, House Republicans passed legislation attacking abortion care and our right to bodily autonomy.
I will continue to hold the line to mitigate the policy violence that Republicans will inflict on the American people with their extreme far-right agenda.
Every single person, regardless of their income, zip code, or skin color deserves the freedom to make decisions about their own body. Abortion restrictions disproportionately endanger the lives of people who are Black, brown, low-income, LGBTQ+, and disabled.
I supported Michigan’s successful effort to protect abortion rights in November, and I will keep fighting until abortion access is restored and expanded as the law of the land.
Can you chip in today to support our work to expand abortion access?
Thank you. Together, we will keep building toward reproductive justice.
In service and solidarity,
Rashida
