Hi John,

Excitement, anticipation, expectations, uncertainty. There’s no getting around it — fresh starts are complicated.

That’s why I always kick off the new year with a wish list. I’m a fan of bold goals and good game plans — especially when it comes to changing children’s futures. It’s just too important to play by ear.

So, here’s our vision for 2023:

1. Affordable, accessible child care and early learning opportunities for families across the nation. 
2.A  better Farm Bill at this year’s reauthorization — so kids in the U.S. and around the world are nourished and growing. 
3. A solid mental health support system for children exposed to poverty, conflict and hunger. 
4. Dignity, safety, unity and compassionate care for families seeking asylum at our southern border.  
5. Policies, funding and protection for children living through disaster, displacement, war and crisis — because every child deserves a childhood. 

There’s a new Congress in session this year, John. They won’t know our priorities until we spell them out.
