Celebrating our county's namesake

King County celebrates the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., civil and human rights icon and our county’s namesake. He inspired people throughout the world to strive for the ideals of equality and non-violence. He put his beliefs into action and was passionately devoted to social and political justice. This year's event was held on Thursday, January 12, with the theme of truth, light and hope.

The event also honored the 2023 Larry Gossett Service Award [ [link removed] ] recipient, Zenovia Harris, with the Kent Chamber of Commerce. Through Zenovia's leadership, she has diversified board member participation, introduced a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, instituted equity talks (open to both chamber members and larger community) and performed internal evaluations to understand where the challenges and needs are in order to meet their equity goals for their members.

Bus fleet and service update: Manufacturer replacement parts allow repairs to continue

Variety of buses lined up in Metro' South Base yard

With guidance and replacement parts supplied by bus manufacturer New Flyer, King County Metro has repaired and restored dozens of buses that were sidelined in December when a steering issue was identified.

King County Metro continues to deliver about 95% of our typical 11,000 weekday trips with only *Routes 301 and 304 temporarily suspended* and *some trip cancellations expected Jan. 16-20*. Due to the fluid nature of the situation, a small number of trips may run on routes that are temporarily suspended. Before traveling, please review our service advisories [ [link removed] ], use our variety of real-time tools and review our list of alternative routes available in our latest blog post [ [link removed] ].

We appreciate the patience and support of riders as we focus on addressing this safety issue. Based on current estimates and access to available parts, work on the initial set of coaches requiring a steering column replacement is expected to continue through the end of February.

Take our survey on proposed bus routes around future North King and South Snohomish light rail stations

As Link light rail extends north, our Lynnwood Link Connections mobility project is working to improve public transportation for communities in northwest King County and southwest Snohomish County. This planning is a collaborative process that includes feedback from community, Sound Transit, Community Transit, and other partners, to develop proposed bus routes to meet residents’ priority transportation needs as new light rail stations open in 2024.

We invite you to learn more and take our survey [ [link removed] ] on these proposed bus routes by March 10.
