It has been a long journey, but the Durham Transit Plan and the
Greater Triangle Commuter Rail Study have entered the final stage of
public engagement before the Durham County Board of Commissioners, our
Metropolitan Planning Organization Board, and the GoTriangle Board
must decide how to allocate $1.12 Billion in Transit sales tax funds
for 2022-2040.
This important program will help the Coalition get ready
to advocate effectively with elected officials for equitable
transit
After many presentations and discussions, the Coalition for
Affordable Housing and Transit Coordinating Committee adopted a position
statement in April 2022. In brief, the four main points are:
- Substantial new bus service and facilities for historically
underserved communities
- Funding above Transit Plan for sidewalks and crosswalks
- Transit funding reserved for regional rail service to serve ALL
Durham residents equitably, not just 9-5 commuters
- Inclusive participation in hiring, contracting, and oversight of
Plan implementation
Speakers to give the highlights of the two reports as they relate
to our position. Find full information at the following links.
