Dear John,
This week, we were finally able to get to work in the 118th Congress.
The chaos some Republicans caused on the House Floor last week was unacceptable. That’s why, as soon as I was sworn in last Saturday morning, I introduced the No Pay for Disarray Act, a bill that would withhold pay from Members of Congress if the House fails to elect a Speaker in a timely manner. My constituents have to show up and actually do their jobs to get paid, and it should be no different for a Member of Congress. My bill protects taxpayer dollars and discourages Members of Congress from playing politics when they should be working for you.
We’ve known for months that House Republicans would come after reproductive rights, and this week they passed a bill to further restrict reproductive care and abortion access in our country. If enacted, this bill would create new criminal penalties for the health care workers. It won’t get signed into law, but it tells you a lot about what their priorities are.
Women deserve the right to make their own health care decisions – free from the influence of any government or politician. I will always stand against attacks on your basic rights and freedoms, and I will do everything I can to prevent government overreach into the private, personal decisions of American families.
Here's what else I was up to this week:
Securing federal dollars for Dakota County
I started out the week by joining Senator Amy Klobuchar, Lakeville Mayor Luke Hellier and other local elected officials in Lakeville to celebrate four new community projects coming to Dakota County. It took strong local, state and federal partners to get the funding for these projects across the finish line and I’ll keep working to bring federal dollars home to the Second District!
Meeting with the Association of Minnesota Counties
This week in DC, I met with the Association of Minnesota Counties to discuss how we can work together to support their collective needs – and especially five of Minnesota’s best counties – Dakota, Le Sueur, Scott, Rice and Washington. It was great to see you all!
Celebrating National Law Enforcement Day
On Monday, we celebrated National Law Enforcement Day. I am so grateful for every member of MN02’s dedicated law enforcement. Thank you for taking on the important responsibility of ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our communities.
Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:
A few months ago, Lakeville Mayor Luke Hellier and his wife welcomed twins, Sandy and Tripp, to the family of now 5 children! After spending some time in the NICU, the Hellier twins are now home with the rest of the family. So this week, when I saw Mayor Hellier, my office presented him a pair of House of Representatives onesies for the twins.
Our entire community is happy that Sandy and Tripp are home!
I’m back in Minnesota this next week for a district work week. Wishing everyone a great weekend – and Go Vikings!
Until next time,
Angie Craig
Member of Congress
