This week, we’re celebrating the many New American elected officials who were just sworn into office! From coast to coast, in places like Colorado [[link removed]] , Georgia [[link removed]] , Ohio [[link removed]] , Texas [[link removed]] , and Washington, D.C. [[link removed]] , New Americans are making their voices heard and stepping into leadership roles in their communities.
These individuals—many of whom are NAL alumni—are trailblazers, and their election is an inspiration for many immigrants who are seeking to be part of the political process and make their voices heard. It’s also a reminder that New American leadership is an essential part of our democracy, and that immigrants can and do play a critical role in shaping our country's future. (Check out the NAL News and Updates section to see a few of our newly sworn-in alumni who are changing the face of leadership across the country!)

As we enter the new year, the future of U.S. immigration policy is uncertain, with a number of key cases set to be decided by the courts [[link removed]] in 2023. From the DACA program to the “public charge” rule, these cases have the potential to shape the lives of millions of immigrants and their families.
In this critical moment, let's make sure that our voices are heard and that we continue to fight for the rights of immigrants and New American communities. We must continue advocating for policies that reflect our values of fairness, compassion, and justice.

And Updates

From a racial slur on a daily commute to police brutality on national TV, we are constantly faced with the stark reality that racism, discrimination, and hate are on the rise. This has to change. But we also know that these systems built on white supremacy are not going to change unless people like us—like you—step in and make sure our rights and lives are protected. Too many elected officials are white men who do not understand our pain and continue to make policies ignorant of our needs. You can change that.

You’ll learn how to embrace your immigrant story and use it as a tool to connect with voters and win. But most importantly, you will connect with other New Americans and elected leaders, learning from them and creating a support network.
Apply today to take one of our Ready to Lead trainings in 2023—the priority application deadline for our first training of the year, Ready to Lead: Midwest in Michigan on February 24-26 is on Monday, so apply ASAP! [[link removed]]
Congratulations to all of our alumni who were recently sworn into office as new elected officials (check out a few of them here)! [[link removed]] We’re so proud of their leadership and dedication to their communities, and we can't wait to see all the amazing things they will accomplish in office.
At the end of the day, their election is not just an individual victory, but also one for the communities they represent, the entire New American community, and our movement. Thank you for being an inspiration to us all, and for showing that New American leadership is essential for the progress of our democracy. 💙

Help fight systemic white supremacy by supporting our mission to get more women, immigrants, and underrepresented Americans on the ballot and into power.
