It is a privilege to serve the 23rd Congressional District of Texas in Congress. Each day, I work to address your concerns and protect our liberties. Please read below for some updates on my recent work representing you in Washington, D.C. and back home in TX-23. THE HAPPENINGS IN CONGRESS Introduced the Security First Act Operation Stonegarden is a lifeline for our Border Patrol agents who rely on local law enforcement and sheriffs to support their efforts at our southern border. After two years of disastrous open border policies, it is crucial we have an all-hands-on-deck approach to solving this crisis. That's why I am proud to introduce the Security First Act to ensure our borders are safe, resilient, and adaptive to the evolving challenges along our southern border. Introduced the National Digital Reserve Corps Act As we have seen from previous cyberattacks, our government currently lacks the workforce capacity needed to combat ransomware attacks and bad actors. That’s why I am proud to introduce bipartisan legislation alongside Congresswoman Robin Kelly to form a National Digital Reserve Corps, a group of civilian individuals with relevant skills and credentials to address digital and cyber needs across the federal government. This will bring the ingenuity and expertise of the private sector to our federal government to bolster our nation’s cybersecurity defense. Held the First For Country Caucus Meeting of the 118th Congress as Co-Chair As a Navy veteran, I’ve lived the struggles military families across our country face every day. The brave men and women serving our nation deserve clarity and efficiency from their Representatives in Congress, and it is our responsibility to provide them with top-notch benefits and resources. That’s why I’m proud to co-chair the For Country Caucus, a bipartisan group with the sole mission of advocating for veterans. Discussed Biden's Disastrous First Border Visit Our district spans nearly 50% of the southern border, yet this past weekend, the White House told me I was not able to participate in Biden’s first ever border visit. President Biden missed an opportunity to meet with me face-to-face and open his eyes to the crisis my constituents living in communities along the southern border face each day. National security is about keeping Americans safe, not politics. We must enforce the laws that are already on the books and reimplement policies that work. Presented With the Pioneers for Prosperity Award This week, I had the opportunity to meet with Mack Morris with Americans for Prosperity. I was honored to be presented with the Pioneers for Prosperity award. I will continue to support their America-first mission through my work in Congress. SPENDING TIME IN TX-23 Participated in a Roundtable With the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce This week I sat down with Government Affairs Staff, Chamber Board of Directors, and Chamber Committee Members at the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. We discussed important issues affecting local business owners as well as various other industries that impact our district. Our small businesses deserve a government that empowers an entrepreneurial environment. I will continue to advocate for these priorities in Congress. Visited the Bexar County Military and Veterans Services Center I visited the Bexar County Military and Veterans Services Center where I sat down with veteran support staff to discuss the primary issues related to veteran care and learn about the key challenges they are facing within Bexar county. From my work on the Appropriations Committee and For Country Caucus, to meeting with constituents of our district, ensuring veterans have access to the resources they need will always be a top priority of mine. Toured UTSA’s New San Pedro I National Security Collaboration Center I had the chance to tour UTSA’s brand new San Pedro I National Security Collaboration Center. During my visit, I was able to learn about their operations, research, and important developments in cybersecurity involving data, analytics, and cloud computing. Thank you to Brigadier General (Ret.) and Guy M. Walsh (NSCC Executive Director) for taking the time to lead me through this groundbreaking facility.
