Many gathered for the inauguration of Auditor of State Tera Klutz, Secretary of State Diego Morales, and Treasurer of State Daniel Elliott at the statehouse on Monday. |
It's been a busy week in politics.
On Monday, our state legislators officially gaveled in and began the 2023 legislative session, Senate Republicans unveiled their legislative priorities, and Auditor of State Tera Klutz, Secretary of State Diego Morales, and Treasurer of State Daniel Elliott were officially sworn in. On Tuesday, Governor Eric Holcomb delivered his seventh State of the State Address, promising to work even harder over the next two years than he has at any other time to improve the Hoosier State while laying out a bold agenda. And on Thursday, House Republicans unveiled their legislative priorities.
I have no doubt that our state legislators and elected officials will now roll up their sleeves and get to work to build upon our historic momentum and lead a productive session that again delivers for all Hoosiers.
But it's not just been busy here in Indiana.
In Washington, D.C., the new Republican House majority, including its seven Hoosier members, has been hard at work, acting on promises made on the campaign trail, including passing bills to defund President Biden and the Democrats' 87,000 new IRS agents, stopping the sale of our strategic oil reserves to China, and requiring medical care for babies born alive after an abortion attempt (which 210 Democrats voted against). There's a lot happening, so be sure to connect with us here and on social media to stay up-to-date on how Hoosier Republicans are delivering for you.
Enjoy this week's newsletter and share it with a friend. Sincerely, |

Governor Eric Holcomb addresses a joint convention of the House and Senate on Tuesday, Jan. 10.
|
On Tuesday, Governor Eric Holcomb delivered his seventh State of the State Address to a joint convention of the House and Senate at the statehouse.
During the address he made it clear that this is Indiana’s time and set his eyes on three key goals for the state: securing Indiana’s place in the economy of the future; transforming the delivery of public health across the state from how it was structurally designed over a century ago; continuing unprecedented investments in the classrooms of Indiana’s school systems – from pre-K through college and adult learning pathways. Here's a quick rundown of the highlights: -
Health and Wellbeing: With a call for new action to get new results, Governor Holcomb is dedicated to fundamentally improving the health outcomes of Hoosiers across the state, no matter where they live by partnering with local communities.
-
Education and Workforce: Adding to a history of unprecedented investments in K-12 education, Governor Holcomb is dedicated to making the state’s largest investment in K-12 tuition support to ensure Hoosier children are set up for success.
-
Economic Development: Building upon our historic economic momentum, Governor Holcomb will look to formalize and diversify economic development tools for the Indiana Economic Development Corp. to capitalize on industries of the future.
-
Community Development: Governor Holcomb is committed to building stronger communities through better connections and by investing in school safety, law enforcement, and our firefighters across the state.
-
Good Government: All of Governor Holcomb’s initiatives rest on a foundation of good government, and he’ll ensure that’s what Hoosiers are delivered.
Governor Holcomb's agenda is ambitious but achievable because of years of conservative fiscal management and our continued growth and momentum. |

“Our caucus has put together a substantive agenda that will tackle concepts like reevaluating Indiana’s tax structure, ensuring Hoosiers have reliable access to mental health services, increasing pay for state police and more,” said Senate President Pro Tem Rod Bray. “We are poised to make some significant changes this session under the leadership of our members, and I’m excited to get started." "Taxpayers expect and deserve to have a state government that takes care of its needs, saves for a rainy day and invests in the future – and that's exactly what we'll continue to deliver, "said House Speaker Todd Huston. "Thanks to years of maintaining fiscal responsibility, we're in a tremendous position to invest in our state's greatest asset – Hoosiers. We'll also keep looking for ways to reduce the burden on taxpayers."
