Good afternoon and happy Friday!
A lot has happened this week on our first full week of the 118th Congress here in DC, so we have a lot to fill you in on!
As you all know, Kevin McCarthy was elected as Speaker of the House this past weekend - he has our full support and we pray over his leadership for our country the next two years.
Monday was national Law Enforcement Appreciation Day! We thank and stand behind our men and women in blue for their commitment to serving our communities. To all our law enforcement here in the Lowcountry - thank you!
Monday night we voted in favor of the Rules Package. This package determines how Congress will operate the next two years in the Republican majority run Congress. For the full statement on voting in favor of the Rules Package, look here!
Monday night we also voted on recending funding for the Administration’s 87,000 new IRS agents. Wouldn’t it be nice to have 87,000 Border Patrol Agents instead to help the crisis at out southern border? Read more about this vote here.
On Tuesday -we signed the oath of office, a commitment to the Constitution, to the Lowcountry, to the nation. Ready to serve for a second term!
On Wednesday, we introduced our first bill of the new Congress. After the FAA meltdown Wednesday morning, we saw Secretary Pete Buttigieg claim our tech was constantly updated and had multiple redundancies. After looking at Secretary Buttigieg’s flight schedule, we noticed he has chosen to fly private almost 20 times in the last year while on official government work. In response, we introduced the Commercial Cabins for Cabinet Secretaries Act to prevent him from flying private until the FAA reauthorization act is completed this year. Until we see the Southwest Airlines debacle investigated; until the FAA software glitches are fixed; and until we complete the FAA reauthorization later this year, the Secretary of Transportation should be required to fly commercially just like everyone else. Read more here.
Next week our team will be down in the Lowcountry and we are looking forward to connecting with you. Join us in Mt. Pleasant on Wednesday evening for “Cocktails With Your Congresswoman.” Get all the details and RSVP here.
As an update, our Charleston office is changing locations. We will no longer be in West Ashely, but we are moving to 652 Coleman Blvd. in Mt. Pleasant.
As always, our office is here to lend a hand whenever we can. As we start this new year, please reach out to our office if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to be heard on any issue at any time. We’re here to help.
It’s an immense honor to serve each and every one of you.
Sincerely,
|
