Dear Friend,

This week, I heard from many of you on how lowering costs would benefit you and your families. From paying medical bills, making rent, or putting food on the table to funding home renovations or finally having the opportunity to travel with your family, every dollar saved will make a real difference in your lives.?

Yesterday, I joined Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II, Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks, Speaker of the House Joe Tate, and members of the Michigan Legislature to announce bills to roll back the retirement tax and increase the Working Families Tax Credit, lowering costs for Michigan?s working families. Rolling back the retirement tax will save 500,000 households $1,000 a year and expanding the Working Families Tax Credit will deliver an average refund of $3,000 to?700,000 families.?

We will continue to prioritize helping?Michiganders keep more of their hard-earned money. Last term, I signed bipartisan legislation to cut the cost of prescriptions and protect Michiganders from surprise medical billing, I worked with the Michigan Legislature to bring down the cost of auto insurance and deliver $400 auto refund checks to every Michigan driver and ended the tampon tax. ??

We?ve expanded access to quality, affordable childcare to 150,000 more kids. We?ve also created the Michigan Reconnect program, putting more than 100,000 Michiganders on a tuition-free path to higher education and skills training, and set up the Michigan Achievement Scholarship, lowering the cost of college by thousands of dollars a year.?

Yesterday?s bill announcement is the first step this legislature is taking to support Michigan families and put more money back in your pockets. I will continue to work across the aisle, and I look forward to signing these bills when they land on my desk. Let?s keep working together and putting Michiganders first.?

Sincerely,?

Governor Whitmer
