How safe storage saves lives.

Hi John,

One week ago, news broke that a 6-year-old boy shot his teacher in their classroom in Newport News, Virginia. Thankfully, the teacher is expected to recover. But this tragedy left a classroom, a community, and our country shaken.

No child should have access to a gun. But far too many do.

When asked where guns are kept in the home, three quarters of children reported knowing where to find them. Children are naturally and rightfully curious, but when unsecured guns are involved, curiosity can turn deadly.

While intentional shootings by young children, the tragedy of children finding and using a gun unintentionally are all too common. Every day, eight children are killed or injured by unintentional shootings in the United States. And the truth is, a heartbreaking tragedy is much more likely to occur when firearms are not properly stored.

In this very moment, 4.6 million kids live in a home with unsecured firearms, which puts our entire nation at risk for a similar headline as the one we saw last Friday.

Take action today to help protect every child and every teacher across the nation from gun violence.
