House Republicans are in disarray.
They spent the first days of their new majority in Congress arguing over leadership of their caucus, creating unnecessary delays, and preventing members from being sworn in and getting to work. It took numerous votes and endless concessions to the far-right of their party for them to finally pick a Speaker.
Voters made it clear they want us to work together across the political divides and extremes. They want us to get things done and deliver the solutions our country needs. Far-right House Republicans aren’t interested in governing, and instead chose to hold Congress hostage while they fought with their own party.
Having four kids at home, I’m used to managing chaos. I’m ready to get to work in this new Congress no matter what obstacles the GOP throws our way. While Republicans are focused on their own political power and grievances, I’m focused on what matters: what’s best for New Jerseyans.
When Democrats were in the House majority, we made historic progress, securing funding for the Gateway Tunnel and other infrastructure projects, investing in manufacturing and creating jobs, and lowering the cost of prescription drugs for people on Medicare.
For me, representing New Jersey’s 11th is about coming up with those solutions -- not playing partisan games -- and that’s what I’ll continue to do in this new Congress.
