John, I've got good news: After spending 15 years trying to pass this bill, the Federal Firefighters Fairness Act officially has President Joe Biden's signature on it.
It's difficult to overstate just how important this is: Cancer is the leading cause of deaths amongst firefighters. These first responders put their bodies and their health on the line every day to save families and protect public lands. That's why state and local firefighters receive workers' compensation protections for illnesses and diseases they develop on the job.
But until President Biden signed this bill into law a few weeks ago, federal firefighters were denied those essential benefits. As climate change increases the frequency and severity of deadly wildfires, the passage of this bill couldn't come at a more urgent time.
I'm thrilled that this bill is finally law – but it's far overdue. Commonsense legislation like this shouldn't take 15 years to make it to the President's desk. Too often, gridlock, partisan bickering, and political scheming gets in the way of governing. Many of my colleagues on the other side of the aisle have decided that they'd rather obstruct any and all progress instead of delivering for American families.

I have always believed our government is one of the most powerful vehicles for lasting, positive change. And I'm committed to making more of that kind of change with our newly expanded Senate majority. But to keep on securing wins like the Federal Firefighters Fairness Act, I need you with me.

It may seem far off, but Democrats are heading into a tough election cycle, and right now, as we lay the groundwork to defend our majority, every single donation makes an incredible impact. So please, can I count on you to make a grassroots donation before 11:59 p.m. tonight so that Democrats can keep on winning progress for American families?
