Last week, my colleagues and I were supposed to be sworn in to the 118th Congress and immediately get to work for the American people. Because that’s what you sent us there to do.

Instead, all the American people saw was chaos, dysfunction, and the same Republican infighting that has become all too common in Washington. We witnessed a historic and disorderly power struggle that only ended once Kevin McCarthy conceded his powers as the soon-to-be-elected Speaker of the House to the most extreme, far-right actors in his own party.

Frankly, it was a dark, damaging week in American history. And now I’m concerned to see where our country is headed over the next two years under a GOP-controlled House.

But that’s why now—more than ever—we cannot allow ourselves to become distracted by the Republican sideshows and political stunts. I’m determined to get to work to lower costs, create better-paying jobs, and make all of our communities safer for Michigan’s working families.

That’s why you sent me to Washington—and it’s why I’m committed to upholding my end of the deal with your continued support.
