Addressing America's Justice Gap

This week Justicia Lab and the Immigration Advocates Network published an op-ed alongside our Pro Bono Net colleagues outlining three key strategies to address our nations’ justice gap. To make a real and lasting impact on bridging the justice gap, we need to focus on simplification, democratizing legal help, and building tools so everyday Americans can engage with our legal system—no matter their station in life, county of origin, gender, or ability.

• Extension and Redesignation of Yemen for Temporary Protected Status, DHS announces that the Secretary of Homeland Security is extending the designation of Yemen for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 18 months.

• Working with Clients with Disabilities, an IAN podcast discussion with members of The Center For American Progress. 

• Criminal-Immigration Updates 2022, NIPNLG released a resource designed to help immigration practitioners stay up to date on case law developments over the past year in the area of immigration law and crimes.

• A Guide to Obtaining Detention Records, The Council and the Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI) published a guide to help individuals who have been detained by immigration agencies and their advocates request records about their detention.

• DHS Implements New Processes for Cubans, Haitians, and Nicaraguans and Eliminates Cap for Venezuelans, DHS announced a safe and lawful way for qualifying Cubans, Haitians, and Nicaraguans with U.S.-based supporters to travel by air to and temporarily reside in the United States.
