Hello John,
Monday is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. It’s a day to celebrate his life and the enormous impact he had on the world. It’s also a day for all of us to reflect on ways we can continue Rev. Dr. King’s legacy by volunteering, organizing, and working for a fairer, more just world. In honor of the holiday, I am sharing the work of some of our partner organizations committed to carrying on Rev. Dr. King’s work towards racial equity and civil rights.
The following quotes are part of profiles featuring the work of national organizations and grassroots efforts. I encourage you to visit our blog to read more.
When We Fight We Win
“We’ve won so much as a community, not just overnight but over time, and that legacy is still a part of us. We should understand that, we should recognize that, we should be proud of that, and we should live in that legacy each and every day.” — Quentin James, Co-Founder and President of The Collective PAC
Quentin James and The Collective PAC are leading a movement for Black representation in politics. Read about how it all got started here.
At the Frontlines of Voting Rights and Social Justice
“Just like Dr. King said in his speech in ’57, give us the ballot, and we will get action on all our important issues. Since then, I’ve been engaged with voting rights as well as the wants of our community. And that’s really what brought us to start Black Voters Matter.” — Cliff Albright, Co-Founder of Black Voters Matter Fund
Check out the interview here to learn how Black Voters Matter Fund is reaching voters not just on Election Day, but every day.
Showing Up for Democracy
“‘Freedom is never really won. You earn it and win it in every generation.’ I was taught this quote by Coretta Scott King as a little girl. Growing up, these words have always been very present in my mind. I want people to know what’s happening right now and that you can fight back. I think that the ability to adjust, willingness to lean into those hard moments, having a purpose in what you’re working on, all those things really contribute to being able to be resilient in the face of tough challenges.” — Andrea Hailey, CEO of Vote.org
In 2020, Vote.org led a record-breaking voter engagement program with 4.4 million voters registered. In an interview, Andrea Hailey shared her motivation for continuing the work of the Civil Rights heroes that inspire her — click here to read the profile.

"Make a career of humanity… It will enrich your spirit as nothing else possibly can. It will give you that rare sense of nobility that can only spring from love and selflessly helping your fellow man… You will make a greater person of yourself, a greater nation of your country, and a finer world to live in." — Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
