Dear John,

Happy New Year from everyone here at UNHCR!

After a year of new and protracted crises, natural disasters and economic instability, it’s uncertain what 2023 will hold. But one thing we are sure of, is that there are thousands of families all over the world who are starting the year with somewhere to call home, thanks to you.

Mir Nawaz (pictured above) lost seven members of his family in an earthquake in Afghanistan last year. However, thanks to your generosity we were able to provide an earthquake-resilient house for him and his nine grandchildren, and they are starting to rebuild their lives again.

From Syria to the Sahel, and from Ukraine to Myanmar – wherever people have been forced to flee their homes – we provide medicine, shelter and much, much more. And we will continue to do so, for as long as we are needed.

Thank you for supporting refugees, displaced people and UNHCR. We are so grateful to you.

Best wishes,

Breno Valentini
