Dear Neighbors,
It?s been a busy week in St. Paul as committee meetings are kicking into high gear and we have started to see some bills come to the House floor for votes. On Monday, the House of Representatives unanimously approved a tax conformity bill that aligns Minnesota?s tax code with changes that have been made at the federal level.
For years, we?ve been pushing for this bill to be passed as a standalone item. Unfortunately, Gov. Walz and Democrats have usually opted to use tax conformity as a bargaining chip to get other things passed. I am glad that the games were dropped this year and that we did the right thing for Minnesotans.
This federal conformity was needed in Minnesota to ease filing compliance burdens and to help Minnesotans that were hardest hit from pandemic shutdowns ? especially those in the restaurant, hospitality, and entertainment industries.
This was a commonsense and necessary thing for us to get done, and I am glad to see it pass on a vote of 132-0.
Happy Birthday!
I also wanted to take a moment to wish a very special and happy birthday to Elk River resident, Anna DeMars. Anna recently turned 100 years old. Happy birthday!
