I almost couldn’t believe my eyes when I read this line today, folks:
“A Republican Elections Commissioner said he was proud of lower turnout in Milwaukee.”
— Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Yes, you read that right. Earlier this week, a Republican official bragged about how right-wing voter suppression tactics specifically targeting Black and Hispanic voters led to 37,000 fewer votes cast in Milwaukee in the latest election compared to previous years.
The fact that someone is not only taking credit for but also celebrating efforts to dissuade people from voting is an affront to our democracy — and it shows just how far Wisconsin Republicans are willing to go to win.
I’m outraged, folks. An election official, regardless of party affiliation, should be working to make it easier and safer to vote — not harder. Suppressing votes, especially in historically marginalized communities, goes against everything our country stands for, and I am more committed than ever before to making sure Wisconsinites can make their voices heard in our elections.
With a competitive Senate race on our horizon, it’s going to take all of us stepping up to stop voter suppression. Republicans have made it clear that they have no intention of stopping their attacks on our fundamental right to vote any time soon, which is why I’m asking:
Can you pitch in to my campaign’s efforts to protect the right to vote and turn out voters for the next two years? From the important Wisconsin Supreme Court race in April, all the way to the presidential election in 2024, I’m going to make every attempt to stop voter suppression and make sure every Wisconsinite can make their voice heard.

Thank you for stepping up to protect the right to vote. Casting a ballot is a duty and an honor, and I’ll never stop standing up to Republican leaders who are getting in the way of that right.
