John, it took Republicans 15 votes and four days to complete the most basic task on the list: choosing the Speaker of the House.
But now that Kevin McCarthy has gotten the gavel, the chaos will only get worse.
While Democrats’ unity was on full display in the midterms, Republicans have made it clear they are at each other’s throats — and that’s no way for a party to govern. Right now, we’re looking ahead to two years of gridlock from within the GOP. That means two years of stalled legislation and a House majority unable to get anything done on behalf of Americans.
The good news is, the GOP’s majority is incredibly slim. In 2024, we can and will put Democrats back in power in the House. But if we want to flip critical toss-up districts in California, we’ve got to get started as early as possible.
