Here are some updates from today.

Yesterday, the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals heard oral argument in an appeal stemming from an Arkansas redistricting lawsuit. At issue is whether private individuals and organizations can sue under Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. If the 8th Circuit accepts a lower court’s ruling in this case, it would reject years of precedent and greatly diminish the power of Section 2. Get a summary of what happened here.

On Tuesday, a self-proclaimed “civil rights” lawyer for the Gavel Project (an organization that “directly challenges the proponents of ‘woke’ culture”) requested that the Arizona Supreme Court remove Gov. Katie Hobbs (D) from office, giving the court four options for how to satisfy his outlandish demand.

Speaking of far-fetched Arizona lawsuits, a judge dismissed a lawsuit brought by an Arizona state senator and Mohave County voters challenging election procedures in Maricopa County.

Earlier this week, we told you about a proposed constitutional amendment that would require all Pennsylvania voters to prove their identity before voting. Yesterday, Pennsylvania Senate Republicans passed the amendment. If approved by the state House, the amendment will go before the voters in the following state election. The governor cannot veto amendments.
