Evangelical Leaders Respond to Biden's Border Visit, Participation in Leaders Summit - Amid a series of new policies intended to address the challenges at the border and President Biden’s first visit to the U.S.-Mexico border, several prominent evangelical organizations sent a letter to both President Biden and congressional leaders. The letter urges the new Congress “to set aside partisan differences and forge consensus to address the crisis at our border in ways that both prevents those without authorization from entering and remaining in the United States unlawfully and ensures that those who profess a credible fear of persecution are treated humanely and receive due process as they seek to avail themselves to the protections offered by U.S. law.”

Kevin McCarthy Never gave up! - It should have been a piece of cake, but McCarthy didn’t fully understand that the strong conservatives weren’t going to give up either. The rule changes had been presented to him during the summer. Congressman Chip Roy of Texas and his allies cajoled McCarthy to make the rule changes and the consideration of seven bills necessary in order to receive their votes. Arrington Honors Law Enforcement Appreciation Day with Legislation to Support Law Enforcement - On National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, Representative Jodey Arrington reintroduced two pieces of legislation in the House of Representatives that would protect law enforcement and hold rioters accountable. The David Dorn Act of 2023 doubles the maximum imprisonment for rioting in the US code, 18 USC Section 210, and establishes a mandatory fine. The Patrick Underwood Federal Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2023 increases the penalties for assault on a federal officer in the US code, 18 USC Section 111, by heightening the fines and establishing mandatory imprisonment for assault with a deadly weapon.
