The new Republican majority in the House isn't just extreme – it's a threat to American democracy and the rule of law.

To secure the position of Speaker, Kevin McCarthy agreed to support a new partisan select committee to "investigate the investigators" and stop Donald Trump and his criminal co-conspirators from being held accountable.

This committee will be led by MAGA extremist Jim Jordan, who is taking over my position as Chairman of the Judiciary Committee.

Here's the bottom line: Jim Jordan should be under investigation for his role in the January 6th coup attempt – not leading a committee designed to protect his white nationalist allies from accountability.

As the Ranking Democratic Member on the Judiciary Committee, I'll be on the front lines battling him. We must defeat McCarthy, Jordan and their extremist agenda. Can you help me in this fight? MAGA Republicans are coming after me, and I need your support.

This select committee is only one of the dangerous promises Kevin McCarthy made. In their House Rules package, Republicans shredded ethics enforcement for members of Congress – paving the way for them to use their positions to enrich themselves without the threat of real accountability.

They've also put forward dangerous bills to shred abortion rights and prevent their billionaire donors from paying taxes. McCarthy further promised to demand drastic cuts to Medicare and Social Security in exchange for raising the debt ceiling.

If we don't fight back, Republicans will do everything they can to destroy the working class and the rule of law. Please help us fight back by chipping in what you can here.

Onward,

Jerry
